As we revealed last week, the Xbox 360 will support USB storage systems.
The news was confirmed by Microsoft today thanks to Major Nelson on his blog. The update will arrive on April 6th and allow two USB devices of up to 16GB each which gives combined storage of 32GB.
This can be used to store profiles, game saves, demos and full games if they can be squeezed onto it.
You’ll have to format the drive and use it exclusively with the console however. External drives will work but only 16GB of data and Major warned:
“Since performance on flash-based USB storage is usually better, I highly recommend using flash-based instead of spinning media like a hard drive, it’s just going to give you a much better experience.”
One of our iPhone Guide users called ‘Rekless’ commented last week: “About freaking time I had to shell out more money to upgrade my HD after the first GTA IV content. And that’s with out music or video. Microsoft needs to get on the ball”.
