It was revealed today that the hacker LulzSec has managed to bring down the CIA public website just weeks after wreaking havoc within the gaming world.
The alleged hack on CIA.gov occurred on the same day the group opened a telephone request line so its fans could suggest potential targets.
LulzSec even went and boasted on Twitter saying, “Tango down – cia.gov – for the lulz”.
The CIA website was offline at times on Wednesday but the hack claim could not be verified by the CIA despite LulzSec already claiming responsibility for the act.
LulzSec can now add the CIA to its long list of scalps including Sony, Nintendo and Bethesda. It has also brought LulzSec into the spot light alongside Anonymous and has truly helped start a new dawn of cyber-terrorism.
We just hope those behind the pro-verbial mask can be stopped before people’s lives are put at risk as a result of these hacks that are supposedly for ‘our best interests’.
