Amidst the whirlwind of hype and anticipation as the gaming community awaits, presumably salivating, for their own copy of Grand Theft Auto V to land in their laps, it must be a stressful time to be working at Rockstar. The pressure of expectation, coupled with all the hard work trying to keep the game and its context secure from prying (journalistic?) eyes until release day must have more than a few of their staff being drip-fed anti-anxiety medications to avoid catastrophe.
There has been talk of leaksand a slew of new footage and images from players who’ve accessed the game files early, predictably and perhaps rightly, depending on where you stand on such issues, Microsoft has swiftly banned these accounts, but the cat is already somewhat out of the bag. Luckily no spoiler details have filtered through to my ears yet, so I’m not embarking on any gun-wielding, real-life rampages thus far.

However now it appears dispatch embargoes have been broken by online retailer Amazon, some customers receiving their pre-ordered copies early. Now, really, who needs Christmas when things like this are happening in September – just the ticket for rainy days. Also, according the grapevine, high street retailers in Europe (eg.) have been casting off the MS-shaped yoke and making their small (but profitable) rebellions by selling early, in very audacious fashion, from their shop windows.
All I’m left asking is why these turns of events never see me with an early copy in my hands!
