Sony and PlayStation have revealed Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, an expanded version of the 2025 open-world action game, scheduled to launch on PS5 on 1st October 2026. This edition includes additional content not available in the original release and introduces new gameplay features designed to extend the experience for players.
The Complete Edition combines previous DLC content from the original Digital Deluxe Edition with fresh additions. Key inclusions are an online cooperative mode called Legends, new music tracks in Watanabe Mode, updated Photo Mode stamps, extra cosmetics purchasable in New Game Plus, and additional Trophies.
New modes and story content added to PS5 release
One of the headline features of the Complete Edition is a roguelike survival mode named Most Wanted. In this mode, players take on bounties and eliminate enemies to gain power and unlock tools. The mode also allows players to unlock multiple characters, each specialising in different weapon types, offering varied gameplay styles.
Additionally, the edition introduces Echoes of Sekigahara, a new story episode with entirely original narrative content. The story alternates between present-day events and flashbacks to protagonist Atsu’s past on the mainland. New locations become accessible, including a hidden valley once controlled by a gang known as the Vipers. Players will encounter new enemies, heavy weapons, armour sets, dyes, and characters such as Nagato, a figure linked to Atsu’s history.
Upgrade pricing available for existing owners
Players who already own Ghost of Yōtei on PS5 can purchase the Complete Edition upgrade for £11.99 or $14.99, facilitating access to all new content without repurchasing the full game. This ‘top-up’ system mirrors Sony’s approach in previous upgrade offerings to existing customers.
The original Ghost of Yōtei received mixed reviews, with Eurogamer’s Chris Tapsell noting its strong swordplay and storytelling but critiquing its open-world sidequests. The inclusion of modes like the roguelike Most Wanted and new story episodes may expand the game’s appeal to current and prospective players.
Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition is confirmed for release exclusively on PS5, arriving on 1st October 2026.
