Microsoft has announced that Subnautica 2 Experimental is now available through the Xbox Insider Program, giving players on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC early access to upcoming updates for the game. This release allows registered users to test in-development content prior to its public launch.
The Experimental version includes features and changes still under development by Unknown Worlds, the game’s developer. This pre-release access enables the team to collect player feedback, identify bugs, and make adjustments ahead of wider distribution. Players should expect some instability, unfinished features, and balance tweaks during use.
Access and Requirements for Experimental Version
To participate, players must already own Subnautica 2 or have an active Xbox Game Pass subscription that includes it. Experimental builds are segregated from the stable version, meaning save data is incompatible between the two and multiplayer is restricted to Experimental users exclusively. However, normal saves remain intact on the stable game.
Joining the Experimental programme involves using the Xbox Insider Hub application on Xbox Series X|S consoles or PC. Players navigate to the Previews section within the app, select Subnautica 2 Experimental, and register to download the preview. Microsoft advises a restart if the build does not appear immediately in the Store.
Feedback and Reporting Mechanisms
Microsoft encourages participants to report bugs or issues encountered during Experimental play to assist in refining the game ahead of full updates. Players can submit reports directly through their Xbox console’s reporting tool, specifying the game and providing detailed descriptions to assist development.
The Experimental release represents an opportunity for the Subnautica 2 community to influence the game’s evolution with real-time input. The initiative supports engagement on multiple platforms, including social channels and the Xbox Insider subreddit, where further announcements and discussions are facilitated.
