Battlefield 6 Adjusts Long-range Gunplay to Align with Battlefield 4 Mechanics

Battlefield Studios has announced an update to Battlefield 6’s long-range gunplay, aiming to bring its feel closer to that of Battlefield 4. The changes are set to launch on 30th June as part of the final update for Season 3. These alterations affect weapon recoil, damage multipliers, and ballistic behaviour across all platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

According to Battlefield Studios, weapon handling is being revised to make recoil more predictable, enhancing control during automatic fire. However, the update discourages sustained full-auto fire at long distances by adjusting muzzle velocity and recoil factors. This is intended to reinforce distinct roles among weapon classes: sub-machine guns dominating close-range encounters, light-machine guns providing sustained suppression, and assault rifles serving as versatile mid-range options.

Changes to weapon damage and accuracy at range

The update modifies damage multipliers applied to different body hitboxes. While the head retains the highest damage multiplier, previously uniform damage between limbs, chest, and lower torso will now be differentiated. Limbs and lower torso receive reduced multipliers compared to the chest, requiring players to aim more precisely when engaging enemies at distance. This change is designed to slightly lower the average time-to-kill (TTK) without affecting weapons’ potential to achieve their fastest TTK in optimal conditions.

Battlefield Studios emphasises that these adjustments should influence gameplay primarily at longer ranges, encouraging more skillful shot placement rather than dominating with automatic fire. Close-quarters combat is expected to remain largely unaffected by the damage multiplier changes.

Testing and timing ahead of new content

These updates have been tested within Battlefield Labs, the developer’s platform for player testing, before wider release. The timing coincides with upcoming content in Season 4, which will introduce one of the game’s largest maps alongside a new limited-time event. The event reportedly features a gameplay mechanic reminiscent of one seen in Call of Duty: Ghosts.

With these adjustments scheduled for deployment next week, Battlefield 6 players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S will experience a significant alteration in long-range engagements, emphasizing controlled fire and precision. This update closes out Season 3 and precedes the fresh map and event content of Season 4 starting soon.
