Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Mode Detailed Ahead of October 23 Launch

Activision has provided an in-depth overview of DMZ mode, the extraction-based gameplay experience featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which releases on October 23, 2026. The details cover core features such as the Forward Operating Base, deployment types, progression mechanics, and gameplay tips.

DMZ serves as Modern Warfare 4’s extraction mode and operates alongside the Campaign and Multiplayer components. At its centre is the Forward Operating Base (FOB), a hub where players manage gear, progression, and missions. The FOB evolves as players complete operations across the game’s setting, Hajin, with over a dozen stations available for management and upgrades.

Forward Operating Base and Its Functions

The initial FOB includes stations for Operators, where players select and manage their Active Duty Operator, alongside DMZ Orders, which tracks mission objectives through an Orders Tablet. Players can also access their Stash to store extracted loot and set up Loadouts for deployments. A Firing Range allows weapon testing, and the Deploy station serves as the launch point for missions into Hajin.

As players continue deployments and progress, additional stations unlock. These include a 3D Printer to craft gear using resources and ingredients, a Gunsmith for weapon attachments and crafting, and a rotating Vendor stock for purchasing gear with DMZ Cash. Competitive and tracking features like the Bounty Leaderboard, Boss Board for high-value targets, and Dog Tag Case for displaying operator trophies are also part of the FOB’s expansion.

Deployment Options and Progression Details

DMZ mode offers three deployment choices: Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, and Free Roam. Story Missions enable players to replay narrative objectives for significant rewards. Dynamic Ops allow deployment into procedurally generated missions that grant DMZ Cash, XP, and increasingly rare supply drops. Free Roam lets players explore Hajin without active mission objectives.

The progression system spans levels 1 to 70 within DMZ, unlocking more FOB stations and rewards. Completing Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, and Orders earns valuable experience and gear. Hunting down Lieutenants and Commanders through Boss Hunts yields high-value loot and large XP bonuses. The deployment rating system evaluates player performance, with higher ranks offering better rewards.

Hajin features various Threat Levels that influence enemy aggression. Players are encouraged to adjust tactics accordingly, as loud engagements can escalate hostile responses. Vehicles are available for quicker travel across land, water, and air, with opportunities for repair and refuel at designated points.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, including DMZ mode, is available for pre-order now on PlayStation 5 with a confirmed launch date of October 23, 2026.
