That’s right. Those poor little fanboys are crying again. But for why this time? Well, would you believe it, Killzone 2 didn’t get an 11/10. SHOCK HORROR. TEH BEST VIDJAGAME EVER DIDN’T GET A PERFECT SCORE. But what did it get? A great score and still the fanboys cry.
The uproar was started when TotalVideoGames review of the game was posted and they gave the game an 8/10 saying it was “Undoubtedly a visual masterpiece that proves the PS3 does have the power to carry the format forwards, KillZone 2 is a wonderfully solid and entertaining first-person shooter. Although it falls short of offering a genre defining experience, the combination of a rewarding single-player campaign and deep multiplayer means KillZone 2 is certainly a worthwhile purchase – and of course the ludicrously high presentation make it all the more sweeter.”
Now, read that extract back to yourself and tell me what is so overtly wrong with that. Done? Did you find anything? No, nor did I. That shows Killzone 2 in a very positive light, criticising only it’s lack of originality which is granted in the world of FPS titles in this era. Yet this review sparked some incredibly hostile comments from readers and, I heard, the writer received some very nasty emails as a result.
Some of the comments that are left on the article are sometimes quite hilarious to read, but also quite infuriating. Here are some examples:
- This site BLOWS at reviewing Video Games!! Probably a bunch of XBOTS reviewing the Best FPS ever. There isn’t much that you can do with a FPS anymore everyone is just recreating the wheel…theres nothing better as of yet!!
- Look at this! What have i see?! yeah.. a S.HIT sexbot fan make a review of a PS3 game… Stupid as.shole
-
Chris Leyton is an idiot….
We can see right away by his score that he is a biased Microsoft fan-boy, i didn’t even bother reading this entire article….BOGUS…
-
the 80% is just to try to make a negative impact on overall K2 review score! Originality: 77% whaT THE HELL YOU WANT?!Longevity: 86 SO YOU HAVE BECOME SOME JIPSY YOU PUNK! AGREE YOU ARE A DISGRACE!
Spelling mistakes and terrible grammar aside, these are probably just the cream of the terrible comments given against Chris Leyton, the writer of the TVG review. He had the balls to give an honest review of the game and he gets slated for it. The funny thing is that the fanboys in the comments are making such an uproar over their most favouritest game they have only played the beta for (Yes, one commenter actually called in the best game ever having only played the beta) just because it got a “great” score rather than a “perfect” score.
But the ordeal does not stop there. If you were to head over to an unnamed website, you would discover one of the most biased articles I have ever seen in my entire career. The site itself does not deserve the hits, so I won’t bother to post it, but the article is based around the magazine EDGE’s review of Killzone 2 and it’s overall score of a 7.
The score of a 7 could be a bit of attention seeking on EDGE’s part, granted, but the tirade that ensues from this article is just appalling. Let me give you a little quote:
“But this is assigning a numerical value to a game that basically says, “it’s good, but there are better titles out there for your money.” This…is…a…lie. That’s right, a lie. Like it or not, opinions exist on a sliding scale, and we’re not saying everyone is going to enjoy KZ2, but this review is akin to saying something similar about “The Godfather II” or “Citizen Kane.” We all know that Guerilla’s title is one of the best FPSs ever made; anyone who knows this industry and has a functioning brain will admit to this. They may not like it, but they will admit to its quality. This is what good reviewers do.”
This section basically says that you are a bad writer if you don’t agree with their every decision. People are entitled to their opinions, yes, but you have no right to call other reviewers bad just because they don’t agree with you.
“Video game journalists aren’t exactly treated with a ton of respect by other entertainment journalists (I know, I was one), and if this keeps happening, we’ll keep suffering under the same label. And that label is: “a bunch of kids with superiority complexes who just want to prove they ‘know more’ than everyone else…at the expense of the consumer.”
Is it just me or does this seem really hypocritical?
Whoever wrote this article is a disgrace, not EDGE. The terrible thing is that this “writer” has a readership, and his message is getting across to this readership and it just takes one of them to pick up on what he is saying and then unleash his inner fanboy, trolling articles such as the TVG one.
In summary, I shall leave you with this superb video from Adam Sessler, presenter of G4’s X-Play, in which he strikes back at the fanboys who decided to unleash fury on G4’s 5 out of 5 Killzone 2 review. Yes, they even complained about a 5 out of 5 review.
