EA closing online services, includes Online Pass titles

EA is to shut down the online services for a number of its titles.

Burnout Revenge, The Godfather II and The Saboteur (loss of The Midnight Club access) are just a few of the EA games that will have its online support cut on the 13th April.

However, the biggest surprise is MMA, which was the first EA title to require an Online Pass, priced at 800 Microsoft Points. It’s almost the most recent release, having first been made available in October 2010 – just 16 months ago.

Other online services that are being shut down are EA Create, EA Sports Active 2.0, Need for Speed ProStreet and Spare Parts.

A statement on the EA website reads: “The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired.”

It continued: “But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level — fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles — where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running.”
