Final Fantasy VII Revelation Confirmed for PS5 Release on 8 April 2027

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on 8 April 2027. The announcement was made during the latest PlayStation State of Play broadcast, accompanied by new gameplay footage and details about the game’s features.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation serves as the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, following the story established in Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The forthcoming release brings expansive exploration elements and an evolved combat system to the series.

Expanded Exploration and Combat Mechanics

The game presents a large open world that players can explore via the iconic Highwind airship. Alongside this, players can traverse environments on chocobo companion Piko, who now functions as both a mount and a combat ally, gaining new abilities over time to assist in various gameplay aspects.

Combat receives a significant overhaul with the introduction of the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system. FITS offers four distinct combat roles—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—each with unique abilities and customisable move sets. Changing FITS also alters characters’ appearances, adding a visual element to gameplay customisation. The new system expands tactical options during combat and exploration.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation also introduces a dynamic character-switching feature that allows immediate swapping between party members during exploration. The addition of a grappling gun enhances traversal by enabling players to scale rooftops and navigate urban spaces more fluidly. Players can assign specific quests to different characters, influencing story events and gameplay scenarios through their choices.

Pre-orders, Editions and Additional Content

Pre-orders for Final Fantasy VII Revelation are currently available through the PlayStation Store. All pre-orders come with a bonus Mecha-Chocobo and Moogle Summon Materia. The Premium Edition includes the base game, a Story Expansion Pass, early access 24 hours ahead of release, and various in-game items such as the Reclaimant Choker accessory and consumables designed to aid early gameplay.

The Story Expansion Pass will grant access to two story-focused DLC packs, with further information on these planned for a later date. There is also a Premium Plus Edition, which contains all Premium Edition content alongside a digital art book, mini soundtrack, the Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia, and additional in-game gear including the Nymphwing Bracelet armour and the Risk Taker’s Choker accessory.

The game will reintroduce the Queen’s Blood card game minigame with a new campaign that centers on the character Red XIII, featuring new strategic challenges and opponents that impact match dynamics.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is positioned as the most feature-rich entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, combining comprehensive world exploration, enriched combat systems, and character-driven narrative options on the PlayStation 5 platform.
