Breaking from the traditional European format of just the Final Fantasy title logo on the front of the box, Final Fantasy XIII’s box art now shows the logo and the render of Lightning, the gamesmain protagonist. You can click on them for a full view below, thanks to VG24-7.
I honestly am a little shocked by the decision to go with this seemingly lazy cover design. While I can understand the need to bring in new players to the franchise, it just seems a little bit tacky. As a long time Final Fantasy fan, I feel a little bit of tradition has been destroyed by breaking the normal routine.
I have always disliked the American designs for their blatant need to feature the main characters on the front and have enjoyed sharing the same simple design with the Japanese cover. Always felt there was a mystery to be discovered when you first pick the box up in the store.
Do you like the design? You enjoying a good look at Lightning’s inner thigh? Let us know in the comments below. As a reminder, Final Fantasy XIII it due to release simultaneously on PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 9th, 2009.
