Ghost of Tsushima Legends Anime Character Art Revealed by Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll provided attendees at Anime Expo with the first official look at characters from the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation, specifically focusing on the Legends multiplayer mode. The artwork highlights the Assassin, Ronin, and Hunter, key characters that players will encounter in the story centred on one of the last samurai.

The character designs are crafted by Takashi Okazaki, renowned for his work on Afro Samurai. The animation studio Aniplex, known for producing Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and Sword Art Online, is leading the adaptation. Direction is handled by Takanobu Mizuno, while scriptwriting is credited to Satoshi Maejima and Gen Urobuchi, the latter known for his contributions to NITRO PLUS visual novels and games.

This anime marks PlayStation Productions’ first foray into anime adaptation. Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, stated at the series announcement in January 2025 that the collaboration with Aniplex would bring the rich world of Ghost of Tsushima and its mythologically inspired Legends mode to life in a new format.

The Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime is set for an exclusive release on Crunchroll in 2027. This positions the series as a new entertainment avenue for fans who have engaged with the game on PlayStation platforms. There have been no announcements regarding availability on other streaming services or formats.

The original Ghost of Tsushima released on PlayStation 4 in July 2020 and was praised for its depiction of samurai-era Japan and seamless open-world gameplay. The Legends mode introduced a cooperative multiplayer experience inspired by Japanese folklore, which is now being adapted for the anime series.

Crunchyroll’s reveal at Anime Expo offers a glimpse into the anime’s visual direction and narrative focus, tying closely to the multiplayer characters familiar to players. The involvement of industry veterans across design, direction, and writing underscores the project’s intention to maintain a connection to the source material while exploring new storytelling methods through animation.
