Ubisoft is set to release a free PlayStation 5 upgrade for its 2017 third-person shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands, enabling native 4K resolution and 60 frames per second performance. The update becomes available on 6 August, offering enhanced visuals and technical improvements for existing PS5 players.
The upgrade was confirmed through a leaked PlayStation Store listing and includes several platform-specific enhancements. Alongside the 4K 60fps mode, the game will support 3D audio, which takes advantage of the PS5’s Tempest Engine to deliver more immersive spatial sound. Haptic feedback integration with the DualSense controller is also part of the update, providing tactile sensations linked to in-game actions.
Improved Performance and Loading Times on PS5
Ghost Recon Wildlands will benefit from faster load times when running on PS5, making use of the console’s high-speed SSD. This improvement reduces wait times compared to previous generation hardware, improving overall gameplay flow.
The upgrade is free for all existing owners of Ghost Recon Wildlands on PlayStation platforms, meaning current players can enhance their experience at no additional cost. Ubisoft will allow free access to the upgraded version until 10 August, providing an opportunity for more players to try the enhanced edition.
Platform Relevance and Player Impact
This update exclusively affects PlayStation 5 versions of Ghost Recon Wildlands and does not alter versions on Xbox or Nintendo platforms. PS5 players will see a clear visual and audio improvement, along with added DualSense features aligned with Sony’s current generation hardware capabilities.
The upgrade follows Ubisoft’s ongoing support for legacy titles on new consoles, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing older games through free post-launch improvements. For PS5 owners, this update offers a chance to revisit the game with upgraded technical performance without purchasing a separate version.
