Hideo Kojima Announces New Fox Engine

The new ‘Fox Engine’ full of jungle goodness

Hideo Kojima took the time to reveal the new multiplatform engine he’s been working on in the Konami pre-E3 press presentation. The Fox Engine, a reference to the Metal Gear Solid series, has been built from the ground up to create Kojima’s new game and fully support multiplatform releases going forward. Kojima demonstrates this desire to move away from exclusivity by demoing the engine with an Xbox 360 pad.

The engine itself looks absolutely fantastic. Kojima briefly ran a character around a vibrant forest filled with life and a fine attention to detail, having the forest bustle from breeze. There wasn’t much on show but initial signs are extremely promising, particularly if they felt the need to start from the ground up even after having already developed the impressive engine used in Metal Gear Solid 4.

It is also confirmed that the engine will take advantage of ‘Transfarring’, the new technology that’ll allow you to transfer your saves from one platform to another (currently demonstrated with Peacewalker from PS3 and PSP) and continue your games progress regardless of platform.
