Home is not a social network, says Sony

I’m rather confused here. For the past year or so, Sony have said that it is a complete social network. Phil Harrison called Home, back when it was announced, a “3D social networking service.” He said, “This is not just about Sony brands and Sony games – it’s a much wider network of connected spaces. The industry is on the threshold of a new era of creativity, collaboration, communication and commerce embedded into an experience to empower games.”

However, SCEE’s Darren Cairns and Liam Wickham spoke at the Develop conference insisting that Home is not a social networking service and is, “a visual representation of the PlayStation community,” with the main focus being on games.

Now, if Sony are unsure as to what Home is, how are we, the consumer who are using this service, meant to know? And especially with developers creating content for Home, if they don’t know what they’re developing things for they just won’t develop them and Home will have a lack of support.

Come on Sony, get your facts straight.
