Hydrophobia update will ‘refine experience’

Dark Energy Digital has announced that it will be releasing an update for its less-than-stellar Xbox Live title, Hydrophobia.

The update, titled Hydrophobia: Pure, will be available to download tomorrow on December 21, and will completely change the game according to the Manchester-based developer.

Designed with both critical and customer feedback in mind, the update will include”new button mapping, massively improved controls, combat, cover and camera systems, much clearer damage feedback and objectives, enhanced climbing [and] better graphics”, according to the developer.

Creative director Pete Jones said: “Thanks to the bespoke procedural technology and data driven architecture of the InfiniteWorlds TM engine, we’ve been able to cram a huge amount into a tiny patch – to be honest we didn’t think it was possible to make as many changes as we have.

“The camera and control changes alone makes it play so differently; it’s a whole new experience. We have listened to what the community liked and disliked about the game; we know we didn’t get everything right first time around but we have taken this time to refine the experience.”

The update will coincide with a a price drop from 1200 Microsoft Points to to 800 MSP starting from tomorrow.

Whether the update will be able to remedy the myriad of flaws highlighted in our fullwritten review remains to be seen – although we’ll certainly be keeping our fingers crossed.
