Jonathan Morin wants to give players more expression in Watch Dogs 2

The creative director of Watch Dogs has discussed some of the concepts he wants to push in the game’s sequel, as well as his thoughts on the original game’s first reveal back in 2012.

During his talk ‘Mind the Gap – Igniting People’s Sense of Wonder’ at D.I.C.E. Europe 2014, the game’s creative director Jonathan Morin discussed the idea of ‘perception gaps’, where concepts can be perceived differently by various people experiencing the game, whether it’s fellow team members, players or the press.

One topic of discussion was the differences between the player and the developer’s authored experiences. One of the game’s core features, the Profiler – which shows randomised facts about other citizens in the world – is an example of how players can use emergent features to create their own stories, which is something the team wants to do more of in the next game.

“You want to continue to push those systems to embrace more of the fantasies of becoming a vigilante,” he told Digital Spy in a follow-up interview.
