Minecraft Live 2026 delivered a detailed reveal of new content across the Minecraft universe, including the first new dimension introduced in over 14 years. The announcements affect players on Java, Bedrock, and Nintendo platforms, marking important developments for the Minecraft community and its expanding presence on consoles.
The event provided an extensive preview of Minecraft Dungeons 2, which is scheduled for release on 29 September 2026. The sequel builds on its predecessor with a larger interconnected world, upgraded combat mechanics, enhanced character customisation, and improved multiplayer features. A key highlight was the unveiling of the Sift, an all-new mysterious dimension with unique environments and gameplay challenges.
The Sift Dimension Arrives to Minecraft in 2027
The Sift dimension introduced in Minecraft Dungeons 2 will also arrive in the traditional Minecraft experience for both Java and Bedrock editions in 2027. This marks the first new dimension to join the Overworld, The Nether, and The End since 2010. According to Mojang, the Sift will offer distinct zones, mobs, and dangers, expanding exploration options for players. Its addition represents a significant update for Minecraft’s open-world gameplay.
Alongside the new dimension, Mojang showcased a fresh biome—the Ice Caves—featuring rare underground cold environments with glowing ice crystals that can serve as decorative or lighting elements. A new mob, the Frozen Zombie, was also revealed. It applies a stacking freezing effect to players and uses ice balls for ranged attacks causing knockback. These ice balls can be collected as loot or crafted for use as weapons or in brewing potions.
Minecraft Launching on Nintendo Switch 2 with Enhanced Features
Minecraft will officially launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October 2026. Microsoft and Mojang confirmed the release will bring enhanced performance and visuals tailored to Nintendo’s upcoming hardware. This announcement extends Minecraft’s reach across current and next-generation consoles, ensuring its availability on one of Nintendo’s key new platforms.
The event also touched on the development of Minecraft-themed attractions linked to the franchise’s real-world expansion. In partnership with Merlin Entertainments, a new Minecraft Hotel and a rollercoaster named “Escape the Nether” will open at the Chessington World of Adventures theme park in the UK, with a 2027 debut date. These additions aim to broaden the franchise beyond gaming and into themed entertainment.
Additionally, Mojang announced new Sound Effects Packs coming later this year to the Minecraft Marketplace, allowing players to further personalise their worlds. A new creator platform initiative was introduced to support a more diverse and evolving Minecraft experience driven by creators.
Players can currently participate in the Wilderness Bound Community Challenge to earn exclusive character creator items and skins by completing in-game tasks. Minecraft Live 2026 provided crucial updates on the franchise’s future for console and PC gamers alike, with key release dates and features confirmed through official channels.
