Multiplayer Mayhem from Platinum Games

Despite only hitting the scene in 2007, Platinum Games have already proven themselves to be serious contenders in the industry. Having put out crazy-insane witch-em-up Bayonetta, 100-mile-an-hour shooter Vanquish and the Wii-exclusive, Sin City-styled chainsaw-a-thon Mad World, they’ve already demonstrated a more than considerable talent for boundary-pushing game design.

This year they hope to follow that success with Anarchy Reigns, a multiplayer scrapper in the tradition of Power Stone. Based around a TV show in a dystopian future, Anarchy Reigns will feature brutal combat across a range of arenas. The number of players per match is yet to be announced and currently game details and screens are thin on the ground, but it has been confirmed that Mad World’s Jack Cayman will be a playable character.

If any studio can do justice to frantic, bloody madness it’s Platinum Games, though it remains to be seen how they’ll handle such a multiplayer-centric game given their penchant for putting out focused solo-player hits. We’ll find out in the Autumn.
