Spanish magazine ‘Hobby Consalas’ recently gave gamers a small insight into the new Tomb Raider game set to hit the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Details include the new Lara Croft will in fact bleed and suffer in this new game. No more dicing with death and not having a scratch on her, quite the contrary if you get in a fist fight with a velociraptor you will no doubt come out covered in your own blood. Furthermore motion captured expressions means you’ll be able to see the pain she’s feeling.
The new game which is simply titled ‘Tomb Raider’ started from the bottom up. The developers decided to give the series a reboot and gamers will be playing as a newly envisaged Lara Croft. The story centers around a younger Lara who goes on an expedition on board the Endurance (the name of the Royal Navys Arctic Explorer), the ship quickly sinks and Lara is the sole survivor, which is where you will join the story.
The island that you find yourself marooned on will house a headquarters where you can buy new materials, tools and weapons in your quest to complete the various missions that you’ll be set. Also much like Gears of War you’ll have a tactical vision button which when pressed certain objects or locations will become highlighted helping you to complete your goal.
The puzzles if not complicated enough in previous installments will be even harder to complete this time around. You will need to think about the elements and how they all react, gravity and explosives will all play integral roles in completing your tasks you must think methodically if you are to finish the game.
Graphically the game will be powered by the Crystal Engine, which will add some polish to the finished article. The games physics will be based on those seen in Half-Life 2. The atmosphere will be similar to that seen in Uncharted and even the film 127 hours plays a pivotal role as the guys at Crystal Dynamics based Lara’s physical limits to that of the main character in the movie.
To add a French magazine also revealed some interesting information, for one the game will be cut up in three sections or ‘episodes’. The three episodes will chart Laras transformation from survivor, to rescuee to escapee. This resulting change will be seen by you, the viewer as you watch her mature whilst you play.
All in all this sounds like it’s going to be a ground breaking Tomb Raider title, as if Lara bleeding wasn’t enough the staggering list of extra features makes for a pretty amazing game. We can only hope the game lives up to it’s new found hype.
