Peter Molyneuxhas spoken out regarding Fable III’s review scores.
Despite receiving a metascore (a weighted average of reviews from top critics and publications) of 80%, in an interview with Gamasutra, Molyneux admitted that he was “pretty ashamed” of Fable III’s reviews, but agreed with reviewers that “the quality just wasn’t good enough.”
“I look atFable III, and it’s hard to be completely honest without offending people but I know, when I read in the middle of a review that said the quality just wasn’t good enough, I actually agree with those reviews.”
He continued: ““You have to remember that, you know, Lionhead — especially me — has never created projects in less than two years. This was the first time we ever did that.”
The Console Monster review scored Fable III just above the metascore, at 85%, describing Fable III as a game that “reaches for the stars with its ambitions, and for the most part manages to achieve them, even though the finale is somewhat weak. The down side is Fable III has been very much dumbed down, even more so than Fable II.
“It’s still a fun and enjoyable ride with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, but the game is definitely more adventure than RPG, and you can’t help but feel that Lionhead Studios have gone a little too far with the simplification. This doesn’t stop the game from being enchanting though, so whatever your taste in RPGs, you’re likely to come away with a smile on your face after stepping in to the world of Albion.”
