Silent Hill: Townfall Reveals PS5 Features Ahead of September 24 Release

Silent Hill: Townfall is set to launch on September 24, with developer Screen Burn and publisher Konami revealing the PlayStation 5 features integral to the game’s immersive experience. This first-person take on the Silent Hill series leverages PS5’s hardware capabilities to enhance atmosphere, sound, and interactivity.

Producers emphasise that the game’s first-person perspective significantly heightens immersion, where limited vision and detailed 3D audio create a tense, unnerving environment. The protagonist Simon uses a device called the CRTV to navigate the town of St. Amelia, replacing the series’ traditional radio. The device aids in detecting monsters, uncovering clues, and solving narrative-driven puzzles distributed throughout the game world.

PS5 Hardware Enhances Horror Atmosphere

Sound design plays a central role in Silent Hill: Townfall’s horror, with custom 3D audio systems providing spatial awareness and depth. Audio Director Byron Bullock and composer Pilotpriest collaborated on a score and soundscape that complement the game’s unsettling environments. Ray-traced lighting further adds to the mood, delivering soft ambient illumination from fog and reactive lighting from player actions, environmental features, and transitions to the Otherworld.

The depiction of St. Amelia differs from previous Silent Hill entries by portraying a recently traumatised community rather than a long-abandoned town. This represents a deliberate choice by developers to ground the story in a believable, detailed setting with environmental storytelling that reflects the town’s recent ordeal.

DualSense Features and Controls

The DualSense controller is utilised extensively to deepen the player’s connection to the game world. Adaptive Triggers provide distinctive feedback corresponding to weapon use, while haptic feedback underscores in-game movements and encounters. Motion controls optionally allow players to adjust the CRTV device and aiming mechanics, with settings customizable through the options menu.

Motoi Okamoto, Silent Hill series producer at Konami, underlined that all these elements aim to fully immerse players in the experience, blending tactile sensations with audio and visual cues. The narrative explores themes of individual and societal conflict, encouraging players to engage with a layered story through exploration and puzzle-solving rather than relying solely on cinematic sequences.

Silent Hill: Townfall will be available on PS5 starting September 24. Additional updates from the development team are expected in the lead-up to and following release.
