Ubisoft has announced a remake of the legendary strategy RPG Heroes of Might and Magic 3, scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2027. The reveal came during Gamescom Opening Night Live, marking a significant update to the 1999 classic for modern platforms.
The remake utilises Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, delivering a fully 3D world with enhanced detail, dynamic seasons, weather effects and new animations. While the game features a complete visual overhaul, the developer emphasises that the core gameplay remains largely unchanged from the original.
Preserving the original gameplay with added features
According to Ubisoft, one of the main goals with this remake is to preserve the experience that made the original so influential. Ubisoft confirmed the inclusion of the two expansions, Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death, as part of the package. Players will also benefit from quality of life enhancements and an updated user interface, with improvements especially notable in the base-building portions of the game.
The remake will support transfer and compatibility of user-generated content from the original game, including maps and campaigns. Furthermore, Ubisoft is introducing upgraded editor tools and a new in-game hub to provide a better platform for creating and sharing community content.
Platform relevance and release details
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Remake is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, making it one of the few recent remakes targeting current-generation consoles alongside PC. This means it will be accessible to a broad range of strategy aficionados across these platforms. Ubisoft has yet to specify whether the game will be available on subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus.
The announcement aligns with the recent release of the original Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete Edition on Steam, which is now available for the first time, potentially introducing the series to new players ahead of the remake. No exact release date beyond ‘next year’ has been shared by Ubisoft.
This remake arrives amidst ongoing interest in turn-based fantasy strategy games, with other franchises like King’s Bounty and new titles such as Songs of Conquest contributing to the genre’s visibility. Ubisoft’s decision to develop a faithful remake signals continued investment in the Heroes of Might and Magic series, balancing nostalgia with technical modernisation.
