One of the UK’s biggest gaming centres has closed today.
The Omega Sektor located in Birmingham and with a location in Harrow has ceased to operate, falling victim to the credit crunch. Though no firm details are avaliable on why it has closed, a statement on the website says:
“As of 9/10/2008, we regret to announce that Omega Sektor’s Birmingham branch has closed. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members, with particular note to our regular members, whom without we would not have been able to enjoy such a fantastic year of gaming. Our sincere apologies to all of our members who enjoyed the centre and for any inconvenience this will cause”
The centre was the largest place for gamers to meet and play games in the UK. It only opened in 2007 and soon become famous for hosting events and allowing massive LAN parties to take place as well as having a wide range of Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii consoles avaliable to play and compete with people.
One visitor, Dan Hampshire, who only went yesterday to the branch said: “I’m gutted. We had some LAN matches arranged and we won’t get our money back now. No one knows why it has closed except rumours over administration”.
He added: “The problem was it was busy but with low entrance fees and cheap pints it was never going to last!”
“It is a sad day for gamers though” he ended.
