A new Game Room feature will launch on Xbox 360 and Games for Windows this Spring.
We’ve heard rumours of such a service down the years and it’ll be a ‘Lite’ version of the PlayStation Home on the PS3.
A virtual arcade will greet you as you walk with your avatar around the game pods where you can play or challenge a friend to a competition.
You can customize your arcade, then invite friends to sample the delights of what is on offer.
30 games will be around for the launch including ‘Space Hawk’, ‘Sea Battle’, ‘Football’, ‘Astrosmash’, ‘Sub Hunt’, ‘Millipede’ and others. The company plans a further 1000 games during the next three years (seems awfully ambitious to us!).
Games can be purchased for 400 Microsoft Points (£3.40 in old money) for both formats. If you want a game on just the Xbox 360 however, it’ll only cost 240 MS Points (£2.04).
There is also the option to play with credits, similar to a real arcade. Instead of sticking in a £1 coin (inflation eh?), you’ll be able to spend 40 MSP (34p) on playing a single game and that can be used in friends arcades as well to sample the games.
So, is the Virtual Arcade something you’d use? Tell us below.
