Microsoft’s E3 conference maybe mere days away, but outside of E3 things are looking bright for the Xbox 360. According to Microsoft they have now moved over 55 million Xbox 360 units worldwide since its launch back in 2005.
What is even more interesting is that since the year began Xbox 360 sales have been dramatically ‘accelerating’. In fact Xbox 360 sales in the first four months of the year have shot up a staggering 29%.
The success is no doubt in part due to the Kinect motion sensing peripheral released at the end of last year. The PS3’s recent crisis with the Playstation Network has also no doubt played its part in the 29% figure.
This is great news as usually by years five and six of a consoles life its sales figure begin to falter. Even the PS1, N64 and Gamecube started to see their numbers go down at this point, with only the PS2 being able to sell more as it reached this period.
From a Microsoft spokesperson, “Microsoft has ‘changed the tail’ of the typical console life cycle, showing dramatic gains in the fifth and sixth years of this generation,”
