Believe it or not, SEGA likes hedgehogs

Whilst SEGA may seem that they have a personal vendetta against hedgehogs, it would today seem that this is only the case with particularly blue hedgehogs.

Hiring an attractive lollipop lady SEGA set up a hedgehog road crossing in Twickenham to help the endangered animals cross with safety. Unfortunately the crossing was only for a short period, no doubt created from the marketing budget for their recent flurry of Sonic titles.

SEGA’s Anna Downing said: “Hedgehogs are an intrinsic part of British wildlife and with Sonic the Hedgehog such an institution we thought he was the perfect figure to raise awareness of their plight.”

There was a Hedgehog handler present who added: “Our hedgehogs had great fun ruling the roads for the day with the hedgehog crossing and it will hopefully encourage everyone to do their bit in helping the hedgehogs of Britain stick around for years to come.

Considering that a reported 50,000 hedgehogs die each year on British roads, I can’t help but wonder if aiding hedgehogs across an otherwise busy and extremely dangerous road, whilst safe for a day, is going to be helpful for their later lives.
