Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Joins PlayStation Plus
PlayStation Plus members will be able to download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III starting 7 July. The title brings a new campaign continuing the story of Task Force 141 as they confront ultranationalist antagonist Vladimir Makarov. Available as a cross-gen bundle for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, the game also includes remastered multiplayer maps from the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 release, featuring upgraded visuals and new modes. Additionally, the open-world cooperative Zombies mode debuts the franchise’s largest map yet, enabling squad-based survival gameplay.

For the King II Offers Cooperative RPG Action
Also available from 7 July, For the King II expands on its predecessor with an updated engine and refined gameplay. The game blends roguelite and tabletop mechanics as players confront Queen Rosomon, who has enslaved her people beneath the mines of Fahrul. For the King II supports solo play and four-player co-op, allowing teams to strategise as they face a narrative-driven quest. The title is offered on both PS4 and PS5, aligning with Sony’s continued support for cross-generation releases.

CrossCode Brings Retro 2D RPG Experience
Rounding out July’s PlayStation Plus games is CrossCode, a 2D action RPG inspired by 16-bit style graphics. The game combines fast-paced combat with puzzle-solving and a sci-fi storyline. Celebrated for its smooth physics and blend of action adventure dungeon puzzles with RPG equipment variety, CrossCode features skill and equipment systems that encourage tactical combat. Available on PS4 and PS5, the game has garnered attention for successfully merging genres within a retro aesthetic.
When Can You Grab These Titles?
All three titles are accessible to PlayStation Plus subscribers across PS4 and PS5 consoles from 7 July until 3 August. This lineup represents a mix of genres and gameplay styles, with a high-profile blockbuster in Call of Duty balanced by niche RPG experiences. The inclusion of cross-gen bundles highlights continued support for PS4 users alongside the PS5 audience. Sony’s monthly offerings maintain a focus on delivering diverse game types to suit its broad subscriber base.
Subscription Service Competition
The addition of Modern Warfare III to PlayStation Plus aligns with a broader industry trend of adding major new releases to subscription services to increase value for members. Xbox Game Pass, for example, has consistently featured large first-party and third-party titles shortly after release. Sony’s selection underlines an ongoing strategic emphasis on securing popular and varied content to retain and grow its PlayStation Plus subscriptions in competition with Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online offerings.
Regional Differences
PlayStation notes that the Monthly Games lineup may vary by region, encouraging players to check the PlayStation Store on release day for exact availability. Given the diverse appeal of the July selections—from FPS through RPG to action-puzzle hybrids—this release supports Sony’s aim to cater to multiple player preferences under the PlayStation Plus umbrella. Subscription members on both current and previous-generation consoles will benefit from this update over the coming month.
