Metroid Ravenous Rating Briefly Listed, Suggesting New Nintendo Switch Entry

A new Metroid game listing titled Metroid Ravenous was reportedly spotted on the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security’s classification website before being quickly removed. The brief listing indicated a production year of 2026 but did not provide further details.

The brief appearance of this rating directly affects Nintendo Switch players, as the game was identified for release on that platform. It also signals potential activity within the Metroid franchise, which has seen its last main entry with 2021’s Metroid Dread on Switch.

Given the extended development time of Metroid Prime 4 and the production year suggested for Ravenous, it seems unlikely this new title is a first-person adventure separate from Prime 4. Instead, industry commentary suggests it could be a 2.5D side-scrolling game, following the precedent set by Metroid Dread, which was developed by MercurySteam.

MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind Metroid Dread and Metroid: Samus Returns, previously announced it was working on two large, undisclosed projects in 2023. With one confirmed to be Blades of Fire, the other remains unannounced, leading to speculation that Metroid Ravenous could be linked to this latter project.

Metroid Dread marked the most recent chronological entry in the Metroid series’ storyline and was praised for its faithful blend of classic side-scrolling gameplay with modern enhancements. Its critical and commercial success revived interest in 2D Metroid titles on consoles, particularly the Nintendo Switch.

This rating leak is significant for Switch owners interested in the Metroid series as it may signal Nintendo’s plans to continue investing in this style of Metroid gameplay. Although Nintendo has not commented on the listing, such classification ratings have historically preceded official announcements. Players should monitor for further news regarding Metroid Ravenous and its development status.
