Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation Reveals New Combat Trailer Ahead of August Release

Game Freak has released a new trailer for Beast of Reincarnation, its upcoming action role-playing game, revealing detailed elements of its combat system. The announcement is significant for Xbox, PlayStation and PC players anticipating the studio’s move beyond its Pokémon heritage.

The trailer focuses on the game’s unique blend of real-time swordplay combined with a command menu system to control a companion, providing insight into the title’s strategic yet fluid combat mechanics. Beast of Reincarnation stars Emma, a cursed warrior, and her glowing dog Koo as they battle monstrous beasts and hostile machines in a post-apocalyptic Japan.

Combat System Combines Real-Time Action and Command Strategy

Players engage in hack-and-slash combat, utilising skills like dodging, parrying, and slicing through groups of enemies and large, challenging bosses. As players deal damage, they build a stun gauge that allows for powerful finishers. Successfully landing attacks also generates FP, a resource that slows down time and lets players issue commands to Koo for special “Bloom Art” attacks. These abilities inflict status effects on enemies, opening them up for critical strikes.

Boss encounters require careful timing of Emma’s sword parries and the tactical use of Koo’s abilities, which makes mastering the combat system essential. Defeating bosses rewards players with new Bloom Arts and skill points that can be spent to upgrade Emma’s capabilities.

Platform Availability and Launch Details

Beast of Reincarnation is scheduled for release on 4 August 2026 across multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC through Windows and Steam. It will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, including PC Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming, with support for Xbox Play Anywhere. This broad platform support highlights Xbox players’ easy access to the game upon release alongside PlayStation and PC owners.

The recent combat-focused trailer represents Game Freak’s growing ambition to diversify beyond Pokémon, delivering a darker, more action-oriented experience. Though the studio is primarily known for its long-running franchise, Beast of Reincarnation’s gameplay demonstrates its capabilities in delivering real-time combat and hybrid mechanics on modern consoles.

With the release date approaching, Xbox and PlayStation players have an opportunity to experience this new direction from Game Freak, both through purchase and subscription services like Xbox Game Pass. This accessibility will be crucial in reaching a wide player base beyond traditional JRPG audiences.
