Dovetail Games has announced that all future content for Train Sim World 6 will no longer be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Starting immediately, new DLC and upcoming releases in the franchise will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
The developer detailed the decision in an official blog post, explaining that the shift is necessary to take full advantage of current-generation hardware capabilities. This transition aims to prioritise performance improvements and visual enhancements that would not be feasible on older consoles.
Impact on Current-Gen and Last-Gen Players
Players who have already purchased Train Sim World 6 on Xbox One and PS4 will retain access to their content, as existing versions and DLC will remain supported and playable. However, any future add-ons or new entries in the Train Sim World series will not be released for these last-generation platforms.
For Xbox One users, there is an option to continue their experience via Xbox Play Anywhere by switching to PC through the Xbox app, allowing them to carry over existing content. Progress and purchases also transfer seamlessly between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Similarly, PS4 players can migrate their game data to PS5.
Cloud Gaming Availability and Platform Differences
In addition to platform transitions, Train Sim World 6 is available through Xbox Cloud Gaming, enabling Xbox One players to stream the game even if their hardware can’t support new updates. This cloud option provides an alternative to console upgrades for continuing gameplay on the franchise.
Notably, PlayStation’s cloud streaming support is limited to PS5 owners, so PS4 users lack a comparable cloud solution, restricting their ability to access future content without upgrading consoles.
This development aligns with broader industry trends where several high-profile games have ceased new releases on Xbox One and PS4, reflecting the increasing technical demands of modern titles.
