SCS Software has announced it will attend Tokyo Game Show 2026 and is targeting the event to showcase a playable console version of Euro Truck Simulator 2. This marks one of the earliest public demonstrations of the long-anticipated console iteration for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players.
The developer indicated that while it cannot commit to a final appearance, the teams are actively working to deliver hands-on experiences for attendees. Euro Truck Simulator 2’s console debut has generated considerable anticipation since its initial reveal, with details about gameplay, controls, and release planning remaining scarce.
Playable Console Version Planned for Tokyo Show
According to a statement from SCS Software, the studio intends to bring the PS5 version of Euro Truck Simulator 2 to Tokyo Game Show alongside other projects, such as their upcoming Road Trip and Coaches titles. This is the first time the company will attend the event, highlighting the importance placed on engaging directly with the console audience.
PlayStation holds a stronger market presence in Japan compared to Xbox, so focusing on PS5 at this regional event aligns with platform popularity. However, SCS Software confirmed that the Xbox Series X|S version is also in the pipeline, maintaining its relevance to Xbox players.
Implications for Console Players and Upcoming Availability
Console players have awaited this installment as Euro Truck Simulator 2 has historically been a PC-exclusive title. The transition to consoles involves adapting controls for gamepads and optimising performance for dedicated hardware. Although controller support exists on PC versions, a fully native console experience requires additional development to ensure smooth gameplay.
The presence of a playable build at Tokyo Game Show implies the game has reached a stable enough phase for public demonstration, which is a significant development milestone. However, SCS Software stopped short of confirming any release date or timeframe. The announcement does not reference a similar console update for American Truck Simulator, suggesting the focus is currently on Euro Truck Simulator 2.
This update is the most substantive information to date for console players eager to experience one of the most popular truck simulators beyond PC platforms. Official release dates and detailed distribution plans remain unavailable at this stage.
