Tails of Iron 2 Blood and Brine Expansion Launches Free on Xbox

Odd Bug Studio has released Blood and Brine, the first expansion for Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter, as a free update on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. The new content expands the game’s world beyond its frozen northern setting, introducing a coastal region called Hardshell Brook along with fresh quests, bosses, a fishing mechanic, and crossover armour inspired by popular indie titles.

Blood and Brine is a post-campaign addition, requiring the base game’s completion before access. The expansion introduces 11 new quests and 10 bosses, set within the new coastal area where Arlo departs from his previous frozen environment. The update also adds a fishing element with 32 aquatic creatures available to catch, alongside nine new armour sets to equip.

New Coastal Region and Gameplay Additions

In Blood and Brine, players travel to Hardshell Brook, a distinct coastal zone featuring new enemies and characters. The expansion includes ship arena battles, advancing combat scenarios into open water environments. In those 11 quests, Arlo encounters 10 new boss enemies, each with unique combat patterns and challenges.

The addition of a fishing mechanic marks a departure from the game’s more combat-focused approach. Arlo assists two shipwrecked sailors in creating an aquarium to fund repairs for their damaged vessel by capturing rare aquatic life. This introduces a different gameplay dynamic without losing the game’s characteristic tension, as dangers lurk beneath the water’s surface.

Indie Game Crossovers Delivered as New Armour Sets

Blood and Brine features crossover armour sets inspired by characters from several well-known indie games, reimagined within Tails of Iron 2’s hand-drawn medieval art style. The expansion includes armour sets based on The Penitent One from Blasphemous, The Lamb from Cult of the Lamb, Dave from DAVE THE DIVER, The Crow from Death’s Door, and Will from Moonlighter.

Odd Bug Studio worked directly with the creators of these indie games to include these crossover designs as a celebration of the independent game development community. Each armour set is adapted to fit the game’s aesthetic and narrative context while providing new customization options for players.

Blood and Brine is intended as a substantial addition rather than a minor DLC. Odd Bug Studio and United Label developed the expansion to offer both new story content and gameplay features, extending the experience for returning players and supporting the game’s community.

Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter – Blood and Brine is now available as a free download on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Players need to have completed the main game to begin the expansion content.
