Control Resonant Launches September 24, Expands Paranatural Horror on PS5

Remedy Entertainment has confirmed the release date for Control Resonant, the sequel to its paranatural sci-fi action thriller Control, on PlayStation 5 for September 24, 2026. The new entry shifts the setting from the Oldest House to a distorted version of Manhattan, featuring expanded environments and gameplay mechanics designed to widen the scope of the series’ horror and exploration.

Control Resonant introduces a new protagonist, Dylan, who contrasts with the previous lead Jesse in personality and abilities. While Jesse was confident and determined, Dylan is characterised by hesitant and shy traits shaped by years of coma and imprisonment. This character development extends to player interaction, with the option to choose dialogue responses that influence Dylan’s approach during conversations.

Expanded Exploration and Abilities in a Warped Manhattan

The sequel breaks away from the confined office setting of the Federal Bureau of Control headquarters, offering players a larger, more open but still structured environment in the form of a twisted Manhattan city. Players can climb buildings, navigate distorted cityscapes featuring gravity-defying areas, and utilise new traversal skills such as air dashes, double jumps, and a grappling hook unlocked through in-game quests.

These movement upgrades are essential for navigating the extensive urban playground and avoiding hostile entities known as Hiss, which patrol the city. Dylan’s combat style emphasises close-quarters engagements supported by quick dodges and powerful melee strikes, differing from Jesse’s gameplay which balanced ranged and paranatural abilities.

Combat Depth and Customisation

Control Resonant expands on the combat system with a complex upgrade path for Dylan’s Aberrant weapon, which can be customised with various status effects like burn and infect. Players can tailor their loadout by selecting from a range of attack forms and Combat Abilities, including defensive shields and environmental summons. The game’s combat challenges rely on strategic power management, with players balancing melee attacks to regenerate energy for skill use, promoting timed and thoughtful engagement.

These mechanics are supported by adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller, enhancing feedback during combat. The inclusion of multiple skill trees and a unique limbo-like hub area called the Gap further broadens options for personalising playstyle and combat strategies.

Mission Structure and Horror Elements

Though larger in scale, Control Resonant avoids a full open-world design by offering focused sandbox zones with distinct mission types. Tasks range from combat-oriented objectives like clearing enemies or finding missing characters, to puzzle and constructive work such as repairing devices. The presence of side missions and location-specific mini-games provides additional content alongside the main story.

The game retains its signature horror and thriller tone with disturbing paranormal encounters, including reality-warping effects and unpredictable boss battles termed Resonants. These large, grotesque adversaries contribute to the unsettling atmosphere central to the game’s identity. The DualSense controller is used to heighten immersion, delivering tactile responses to environmental and combat events.

Control Resonant’s full release on PlayStation 5 is scheduled for September 24, 2026, marking a significant step in Remedy’s expansion of its paranatural universe with enhanced environments, story depth, and refined gameplay tailored to the hardware’s capabilities.
