Square Enix has provided a hands-on look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation during Tokyo Game Show 2026, offering a first playable glimpse of the PS5 exclusive set for release on April 8, 2027. The demo focuses on combat and introduces new playable characters Vincent and Cid, alongside a new game mechanic called the FITS System.
The demo places players in the Whirlwind Maze, a location marked by perilous terrain and atmospheric hazards including strong winds and hostile black-robed enemies. The party, now expanded to eight members, ventures through the maze towards an encounter with Sephiroth.
New Playable Characters Vincent and Cid Demonstrate Distinct Combat Styles
Vincent brings a dual combat style combining ranged gunfire and a monster transformation ability. His firearm attacks build a power meter triggering stronger abilities named Blood Moon, Execration, and Retribution. Vincent’s monster form grants enhanced mobility and melee attacks but applies a drawback through rising Chaos levels which gradually reduce his maximum health.
Cid fights using a spear, excelling in aerial combat and chaining attacks with an emphasis on timing. His abilities include multiple spear throws and air manoeuvres enabled by a blue aura, with tactical options created through pinning enemies and activating follow-up attacks.
Introduction of the FITS System and Boss Fight with Jenova Death
Final Fantasy VII Revelation debuts the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) System, offering four specialised classes—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—with unique abilities tied to each. Cloud, demonstrably equipped with Summoner FITS in the demo, can summon various powerful entities such as Ifrit and Shiva, using a charged attack called Pledge Roar that consumes his HP.
The demo culminates in a battle against the redesigned Jenova Death creature. The boss fight involves avoiding substantial fire-based attacks and managing tentacle shields that must be destroyed to deal damage to the main body. Combining Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks results in the defeat of Jenova Death within this encounter.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation marks the final chapter in the remake trilogy following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The game is confirmed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive with a release date set for 8 April 2027.
