Gears of War: E-Day Early Access Launches Today on Xbox and PC

Gears of War: E-Day has entered early access today, October 1, for Premium Edition players and Xbox Game Pass subscribers with the Premium Upgrade. The launch was announced by Microsoft’s Xbox Wire, highlighting its availability across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam.

The early access window opened at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC), with the full game scheduled for release on October 6 at the same time. It is also accessible through cloud gaming platforms, including Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW, broadening play options beyond traditional hardware.

Details on Early Access and Game Features

Gears of War: E-Day serves as a prequel to the original series, exploring the emergence of the Locust Horde. It features a campaign playable solo, solo split-screen, and up to four-player online co-op. Multiplayer is supported with the return of the Horde Siege mode, expanded for larger maps, additional players, and more complex objectives. PvP fans can engage with refined 4v4 Versus modes, featuring modernised movement mechanics alongside classic cover-based combat.

The game is built using Unreal Engine 5, aiming to deliver enhanced visual fidelity and atmospheric detail. Enemies have been reimagined to restore the tension and horror elements central to the franchise’s tone, with both familiar foes and new threats present throughout the experience.

Platform and Availability Information

On launch, Gears of War: E-Day will be part of Xbox’s Disc to Digital programme, allowing physical edition buyers to redeem a digital copy. Supports include Xbox Series X|S consoles, PCs running Windows, and Steam. Cloud gaming support via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW offers players additional flexibility in how they access the title.

Alongside the game, various promotional items have been released such as new apparel via the Xbox Game Studios Shop and a limited-time Gears-themed pizza in select North American locations. The official soundtrack will launch on October 6, with pre-orders available now on digital platforms.

For those interested in peripheral options, limited edition Gears of War: E-Day Xbox Wireless Controllers are now available, while a controller dock and themed PC peripherals from 8BitDo are scheduled to release later in October.
