Nintendo has announced a physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Pokémon Legends: Z-A that includes the Mega Dimension expansion on a single cartridge. The combined version of the game will launch on October 29, offering players the complete experience in one purchase.
According to The Pokémon Company, this release is designed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware but remains compatible with the existing Nintendo Switch. This allows players who own the current console to buy the game now and upgrade to the newer system later without losing access.
Mega Dimension Expansion Included on Cartridge
The Mega Dimension DLC previously launched last October as a separate downloadable expansion. It extends the game by introducing new adventures in Lumiose City through portals created by the Pokémon Hoopa. Notably, the expansion adds the capability to temporarily control Pokémon with levels exceeding 100 and includes encounters with additional Mega Evolutions, including Darkrai, Magearna, and Baxcalibur.
The bundled physical edition also provides an in-game bonus of 100 Ultra Balls, aimed at enhancing the capture mechanics as players begin their journey.
Availability and Context for Switch Players
This re-release arrives during a period without major new Pokémon titles scheduled for this holiday season on Nintendo platforms. The next generation of Pokémon games, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, are still slated exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The Pokémon Legends: Z-A bundle offers an accessible entry point for collectors and new players anticipating the hardware upgrade.
While rumours persist about remakes of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald potentially launching in 2026, Nintendo has yet to confirm such plans officially.
IGN’s review of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, scoring it 8/10, acknowledged the title’s progress in Game Freak’s approach to 3D Pokémon games and highlighted its engaging characters and side quests despite less impressive city visuals.
The combined physical release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A with Mega Dimension DLC is confirmed for October 29, compatible across both Switch and Switch 2 consoles.
