Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone will no longer be supported on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 following the conclusion of Season 6 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. This announcement directly affects players using last-generation consoles, signalling the end of Warzone’s availability on these platforms.
The shutdown results from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the next mainline entry scheduled for release on October 23, 2026, not supporting Xbox One or PS4. Warzone’s free-to-play battle royale mode maintains integration with the current Call of Duty year’s content, and with Modern Warfare 4 dropping last-gen support, Warzone will concurrently cease on these platforms.
Shutdown Timeline Linked to Black Ops 7 Season 6
Activision’s official communication states that Warzone on Xbox One and PS4 will remain available through the end of Black Ops 7 Season 6, although an exact shutoff date has not been provided. Based on past seasonal cycles, Season 6 is expected to start around September 17, 2026, and may continue until approximately November 12, suggesting Warzone on last-gen consoles could remain playable until then.
Previous Call of Duty transitions saw Warzone updates align with Season 1 of the incoming title occurring several weeks post-launch. The current situation might replicate that timing, with Warzone’s support ending shortly after Modern Warfare 4’s launch window.
Availability and Purchases on Xbox One and PS4
Warzone remains playable on Xbox One and PS4 for users who have already installed the game, but new downloads are no longer available for these consoles. Additionally, the in-game store has been disabled on last-gen platforms, preventing any further purchases or COD Points redemption. However, players’ existing content and purchases are preserved and linked to their Activision accounts, allowing them to access skins, weapons, and other items if they log in on supported platforms.
As Modern Warfare 4 will not launch on Xbox One or PS4, the shutdown effectively ends last-gen players’ ability to continue Warzone beyond the current season linked to Black Ops 7.
