Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening Launches with Warlock Trial and Overwatch Collaboration

Diablo 4’s Season of Death Awakening Launches June 30

Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed the release date and full details for Diablo 4’s next major update, Season of Death Awakening. The season will go live on June 30, bringing new gameplay features and activities to players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Battle.net. Notably, the update introduces ‘Mythic Uniques 3.0,’ allowing players to upgrade any Unique item to the highest Mythic quality tier. This marks a significant change in item progression that will impact character builds and loot strategy across the game.

Season of Death Awakening also includes a new season journey comprising 120 objectives spread over nine ranks, delivering structured challenges and rewards. Additionally, the update adds ‘Ruptures’—mini-events scattered globally that spawn enemies from portals—and a quest line focused on uncovering the origins of a mysterious Death Cult. Players seeking a more solitary experience will find a new Solo Self Found mode that disables party joining and trading, catering to those looking for a self-reliant playstyle.

Warlock Class Trial Available at Season Launch

Coinciding with the season launch is a free trial for Diablo 4’s Warlock class, which debuted with the Lord of Hatred expansion earlier this year. The trial will run from June 30 to July 7 and allows players who do not own Lord of Hatred to access the Warlock and level it up to 30. The class combines summoning and demon-infused magic, representing a complex hybrid of Necromancer and Sorcerer abilities.

This trial is available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Battle.net but notably excludes the Steam platform. Progress made during the trial carries over if players purchase Lord of Hatred later, ensuring a smooth transition. Blizzard previously ran a similar free trial for the Paladin class, making this a continuation of their approach to expanding access to new content.

Overwatch Collaboration Introduces Seasonal Cosmetics

In addition to the seasonal content and trial, Blizzard has announced an Overwatch crossover event within Diablo 4. This event adds a new Reliquary battle pass featuring themed cosmetics, including the game’s first earnable dye. Players will collect the ‘Eye of the Overwatch’ currency by defeating Elite and Champion monsters to unlock these items.

While no character skins are included in the battle pass, Diablo 4’s in-game store will offer skins inspired by Overwatch heroes such as Mercy, Reinhardt, Kiriko, Roadhog, Reaper, and Genji. These are expected to be premium items separate from the free content in the Reliquary, consistent with previous Blizzard collaborations.

Patch and Platform Availability

Season of Death Awakening launches alongside patch 3.1.0, which will be available for pre-download starting June 25 at 6pm BST across Battle.net, PlayStation, and Xbox. Steam players are excluded from the pre-download and the Warlock trial. The update will introduce widespread changes and content additions that affect all platforms except Steam in regards to certain features.

This release schedule and platform distribution underscore Blizzard’s ongoing support for console and Battle.net players, while raising questions about Steam’s role in future seasonal content.
