At TennoCon 2026, developer Digital Extremes presented significant new content for its online action RPGs Warframe and Soulframe, impacting players across all supported platforms including Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of Warframe’s Tau expansion, which introduces a whole new solar system for players to explore along with fresh antagonists and gameplay mechanics. This update marks a major evolution for the 13-year-old title, expanding its universe beyond the original star system.
Warframe’s Tau system features the Forax, a cyberpunk-inspired alien city that serves as a hub blending open and procedurally generated zones. While not an open world in the style of Warframe’s Planes of Eidolon or Fortuna, Forax offers a unique mix of exploration and combat arenas. Creative director Rebecca Ford described Tau as “the biggest shift for Warframe ever,” emphasising the long-term design goal to keep the game sustainable by adding a second solar system for players to progress through.
The expansion also brings Brysko, a new Chimera Warframe voiced by Matt Mercer. Brysko is a sentient gunslinger-type Warframe whose character-focused narrative ties into the ongoing conflicts of the Warframe universe. The event included a showcase of a playable Lotus segment and glimpses of Brysko’s fast-paced combat style that contrasts with traditional Warframe gameplay.
Ahead of Tau’s release later this year, Warframe will see several preparatory updates, including the Iceblade of Narin story quest featuring a new Warframe and location, deluxe versions of existing Warframes Qorvex and Banshee, a gameplay rework, and new Nightwave missions within the Amir’s Shockwave update. Additionally, Warframe will introduce its first card mini-game, Portau, which is a poker-inspired activity involving unique mechanics such as Blooms, Cores, Moons, and Suns.
Soulframe Expands with New Narrative, Dark Powers, and Mounts
Soulframe, still in its alpha stage, received substantial new content details at TennoCon, including narrative developments and gameplay features designed to deepen the experience for early access players on console and PC. The developers also announced an extended window for new players to gain access to Soulframe Preludes, its current early-access programme, available until 12 July 11:59 ET.
The new narrative questline, Warsongs, scheduled for release this autumn, focuses on the player character’s origin and expands the lore surrounding Tempest Bayor, a recurring antagonist. The quest introduces the Vadagar pact, unlocking dark powers known as vespers, and presents a new weapon, the Coiled Dawn, a snake sword designed for sweeping combat against multiple enemies.
Actors Ben Starr and Jennifer English join the Soulframe cast in key roles, supporting the expansion of the game’s storyline. The Warsongs demo included playable segments featuring both the Envoy’s mother and Tempest Bayor, culminating in a confrontation that highlights Soulframe’s darker narrative tone.
Additional anticipated features in Soulframe include new combat encounters like the Mendicant Reinbreaker, which may become a player ally, the introduction of mounts exemplified by large wolves, and a fishing mini-game named Vegan Fishing. These additions provide new activities and improve quality of life as the game progresses through early access.
Both Warframe’s Tau expansion and Soulframe’s upcoming content updates underscore Digital Extremes’ continued commitment to live-service action RPGs supporting major platforms including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Tau and the related Warframe updates are expected later this year, while Soulframe’s Warsongs questline and associated features will arrive in the fall.
