Obsidian Entertainment has launched the Rot and Ruin update for Grounded 2, expanding the survival action game with a new playable area, fresh enemies, a new boss, additional vehicle and base customisation features. This update is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PC via Game Pass and Steam, as well as PlayStation 5.
The Rot and Ruin update introduces the Woodpile, a new section within Brookhollow Park featuring extensive structures overrun by hostile creatures. Players will encounter Termites including familiar classes such as Workers and Soldiers, alongside new O.G.R.R. variants exhibiting unusual behaviour and attacks. The update also brings the Centipede boss—a large, multi-legged enemy that has been highly requested by the community.
New threats and vehicles in Brookhollow Park
Alongside new enemies, the update adds the Potato Beetle Buggy, a larger vehicle compared to the previously introduced Ladybug Buggy. This buggy is designed for close-range combat, capable of launching a spread of projectiles at enemies and providing a Healing Roar ability to aid players during fights. It can also carry resources and contribute materials for crafting while navigating the park.
The update enhances player base customisation with the introduction of Painting and the Splotcher paintball gun. This allows players to apply colour to structures such as walls, floors, roofs and doors, bringing more visual variety to their base designs within Grounded 2’s environment.
Gear upgrades and additional content
Rot and Ruin adds a new resource called Bismuth, tied to the game’s underlying Raw Science theme. Players can use this resource at the newly introduced Yoking Press station to upgrade weapons and armour to higher tiers, extending the progression of existing equipment. The update also includes new SCA.B Themes, collectible figurines, and various new stations found throughout Brookhollow Park.
Grounded 2 launched in Game Preview and Early Access phases on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 earlier in 2026, with a full 1.0 release scheduled for 2027. The Rot and Ruin update adds substantial content and variety ahead of the full launch.
Players currently can access the update through Xbox Game Pass on Series X|S and PC, with cross-platform play enabled between platforms. The new content marks a notable expansion of the game’s survival and exploration elements, maintaining Grounded 2’s focus on cooperative gameplay and base building.
Rot and Ruin is the first major post-launch content drop for Grounded 2, setting the stage for further updates leading to the official version 1.0 release next year.
