Infinity Ward has detailed Kill Block, a new multiplayer mode coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which launches on October 23. The mode features an adaptive live-fire training environment with dynamically reconfiguring maps, offering a fresh experience on every match.
Kill Block deploys players to the West Bridge Training Facility, a modular combat zone where the layout shifts between rounds. This facility includes three modular sections called ‘Slabs’: two outer End Slabs connected to a Central Slab. The Slabs rearrange to create over 500 possible map configurations that combine new and classic locations inspired by areas from previous Modern Warfare titles.
Modular Map Design and Dynamic Gameplay
The West Bridge Training Facility uses concrete towers and an intricate system of electronics, motors, and pulleys to reconfigure the map’s layout before and during matches. The overall play area formed by the three connected Slabs approximates the size of the Shoot House map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).
The modular approach offers a variety of combat environments, from close-quarters trenches to open rooftops, requiring players to adapt their tactics and positioning every round. Visual markers and spray-painted signs assist player orientation as the map changes.
Weather Effects and Platform-Specific Enhancements
In addition to physical layout changes, Kill Block incorporates dynamic weather effects. Military-grade weather simulation arrays attached to certain Slabs produce rainfall and snow flurries, which affect weapon handling by causing water and ice accumulation until players reload or switch weapons.
Modern Warfare 4 utilises platform-specific features on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, including adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, 3D audio, HDR, and 4K resolution support. The PS5 Pro enhances graphical fidelity further with improved screen-space reflections, unlocked framerates at 120Hz with VRR, and enhanced performance modes.
Aside from Kill Block, Modern Warfare 4 will launch with 12 Core 6v6 maps and modes, including large-scale combined-arms battles. Additional maps are scheduled for release shortly after launch. The game supports standard and Hardcore variants alongside Party modes, delivering a broad multiplayer offering.
Pre-orders for Modern Warfare 4 on PlayStation 5 grant early access to the Open Beta and Campaign. The game’s launch date remains set for October 23 on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
