Dan Bunting, Online Director for Black Ops today said that “We really wanted to push the visuals on all of the maps. Each map feels very unique.” He is of course commenting on the impending ‘Annihilation’ map pack coming to Black Ops on June 28th.
There are four maps in total, Silo is set in a snowy Russian construction site. According to designer Phillip Takser gamers must “take their time, are smart, use decoys, and pay attention to the mini-map.”.
Hangar 18 is based around a silent SR-71 Blackbird, sadly parked up as they have been for many years now. The particular parking spot is known as Area 51 and Dan Bunting reveals that the map “has a lot of Easter eggs that play up to the conspiracy theory aspect.”
The last two Drive-In and Hazard are reminiscent of previous Call of Duty successes. Drive-In is losely based around fan favourite Nuketown, while Hazard takes after World at War’s Cliffside.
The Zombies map is set in Shangri-La, you can commandeer mine carts, slide down waterfalls and even set of spike traps in your quest to defeat the zombie foes.
The map pack will hit the 360 on June 28th with the PS3 version closely following it. The question being is it truly worth 1200ms points? Or is it easier to simply wait out and pick up Modern Warfare 3?
