Sony has announced a new generation of audio accessories for the PlayStation 5, revealing the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and the PlayStation Pulse Edge Wireless Headset. Both headsets feature studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers and will be available in White and Midnight Black colours.
These headsets aim to enhance spatial accuracy and sound separation, allowing players to better discern in-game directional audio cues such as footsteps and reload sounds. The inclusion of larger planar drivers delivers deeper bass while maintaining sound clarity, building on feedback received from the 2024 Pulse Elite headset.
Planar Magnetic Drivers and PlayStation Link Support
The updated headset line continues to leverage planar magnetic drivers with a custom design. The Pulse Edge model offers double the magnet volume per driver compared to the Pulse, which is intended to provide richer bass and more detailed audio. Both headsets include support for PlayStation Link—a wireless USB Type-C connection standard—that delivers ultra-low latency and lossless audio.
PlayStation Link compatibility allows seamless switching between supported PlayStation 5 consoles, PlayStation Portal remote players, PCs, and Macs. Players can also connect these headsets simultaneously to compatible Bluetooth devices, broadening their usability across different platforms.
Microphone and Comfort Features for Gaming
Both headsets come equipped with AI-enhanced noise rejection on integrated microphones to filter out background sounds during voice chat. The Pulse Edge offers additional features including active noise cancellation and a detachable boom microphone, alongside an option to use a hidden microphone when the boom is detached. This aims to improve communication clarity across multiplayer sessions.
The new design includes rotating ear cups for easier portability by allowing the headsets to lay flat, and materials have been selected for durability and comfort during extended gameplay. The Pulse Edge headset is supplied with a carrying case, reflecting its positioning as a premium offering within the lineup.
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset will launch in select markets starting this holiday season, with the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset following in early 2027. Further details regarding pricing, availability, and pre-orders are expected to be announced ahead of their respective launches.
