Gears of War: E-Day Early Access has launched worldwide today, October 1, at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC), The Coalition and Xbox Wire have confirmed. The early access period is available to players who purchased the Premium Edition and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers with the Premium Upgrade.
The full game will become available globally on October 6, 2026, at the same time. Gears of War: E-Day supports Xbox Series X|S consoles, Windows PC, and Steam, with cloud gaming available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW service.
Gameplay and Features Available in Early Access
The game is a prequel set 14 years before the original Gears of War, focusing on the events of Emergence Day as the Locust Horde erupts underground. It offers a narrative-driven campaign starring Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Players can experience the story solo, in two-player split-screen, or cooperatively with up to four players online.
Multiplayer modes include an evolved Horde Siege PvE mode, designed for larger maps and more players, supporting up to four-player squads and multi-squad missions involving world bosses. Players can select from four classes—Assault, Marksman, Medic, or Breacher—while progressing to unlock rewards and equipment customisation.
The Versus mode returns with refined 4v4 player-versus-player combat on new maps, featuring ranked and social playlists. Movement and control mechanics have been updated for enhanced fluidity, while retaining the signature cover-based combat the franchise is known for.
Launch Promotions and Additional Content
Supporting the launch, new Gears of War-themed apparel is available through the Xbox Game Studios Shop and partners. A promotion with Liquid Death Energy offers an in-game chainsaw pose for players who upload purchase receipts. Prince Street Pizza is also offering a limited-time Emergence Pie across locations in the US and Canada.
The official companion book, The Art and Making of Gears of War: E-Day, by Insight Editions, contains developer interviews covering the game’s art, story, sound, and design. The original soundtrack, composed by Adam Lastiwka, will release alongside the full game on October 6, with the first track “Emergence” available on streaming platforms.
Alongside the digital offerings, limited edition Xbox Wireless Controllers themed for Gears of War: E-Day are available to pre-order, with a controller dock and 8BitDo branded keyboard and mouse aimed at PC players scheduled for release later in October.
