Microsoft has confirmed that Minecraft will receive a dedicated upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October 2026. The update aims to bring the game’s visual and content experience on this newer platform in line with other current versions.
Specifically, the upgrade will enable Minecraft’s Vibrant Visuals by default on Switch 2. This feature enhances lighting, shadows, and overall visual fidelity, marking a significant improvement over the standard Switch edition. It also applies to content available via Minecraft Marketplace.
This upgrade extends to the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario pack, which will also receive enhancements through the Vibrant Visuals feature. The pack, featuring themed skins and worlds, benefits from improved visual effects as part of the overall update.
A digital upgrade path will be made available for existing Switch owners to transition to the enhanced Minecraft version on Switch 2. Details on pricing or whether there will be an additional cost have not been disclosed, but the announcement noted the upgrade will be separate from the original game’s purchase.
Minecraft’s delayed arrival on Switch 2 comes over a year after the console’s launch, during which time the game has operated on the original Switch version. Vibrant Visuals was introduced around the Switch 2’s launch window, making the timing of the upgrade notable.
Since Minecraft’s transition under Xbox leadership and CEO Asha Sharma, Microsoft has indicated an increased focus on the platform, responding to competition from other sandbox and platform games such as Roblox.
